Poverty & the Arts builds a community between the homeless and the rest of society with the ties of creating art. It’s a great event for all art enthusiasts and homelessness advocates.

One of East Nashville’s most popular events, The Tomato Art Fest, will be August 10, 2013 from 9:00am to 10:00pm in the Five Points area of East Nashville. The parade will kick things off, followed by a full day of tomato art, vendors, live entertainment, the Jack Daniel’s experience, the Holt Brother’s Carpet Tomato Throw, and more.

If you can’t wait until Saturday, get in on the Tomato King & Queen Contest on Thursday or attend the Tomato Art Pre View Party on Friday.

East Nashville Tomato 5K

Before the full day of festivities, run or walk in the East Nashville Tomato 5k presented by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee Race Series. The race will be through East Nashville’s historic residential districts. Proceeds will go to the Annual Giving Campaign. Start training early by registering for the free Potato to Tomato Training Program through East Nasty!

As if East Nashville needed something new to be even more hip, there will soon be a growlers and taproom, The Hop Stop. Jesse Hamilton, owner of the Village Pub and Beer Garden, will open The Hop Stop on Gallatin Pike.

It will offer food, craft beer, and growler refills. You can fill up your growler or stay and enjoy a pint. The “beer to-go” trend of growlers is new and growing in Nashville, and The Hop Stop could be your one stop for beer with a cool, trendy taproom!

The official opening date hasn’t been announced yet.

After being approved for a building permit, owner Corey Ladd started his big adventure: to transform a home in Five Points from an everyday house to a treehouse! An open date is expected to be announced in the next couple of months.
